Bernard ArWayne Hill, 87, of Home, KS, died January 27, 2024 at Cambridge Place in Marysville after suffering a stroke at his home on January 17, 2024.
Visitation was Wednesday, January 31, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville.
A rosary service was held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, at St. Malachy's Catholic Church in Beattie.
A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 1, at St. Malachy's Catholic Church. Father Quentin Schmitz and Father Jim Shaughnessy officiated. The musicians were Laura O’Neil and Jody Ketter. Music included "Here I Am Lord", "Fill My Cup Lord", On Eagles Wings", "Precious Lord Take My Hand", "Daddy's Hands", "You are Mine" and "How Great Thou Art."
The pallbearers were ArWayne’s grandsons; Nicholas Heiman, Tony Heiman, Bradley Heiman, Mark Heiman, Cody Hill and Jake Hill.
The burial was in the Home City Cemetery.
ArWayne was born on December 17, 1936, on the family farm north of Home, KS to Arnold and Wilhelmina “Minnie” (Schwarz) Hill. In 1954, he graduated from Marysville High School.
On July 6, 1958, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Kay Goucher at the Church of Christ in Augusta, KS. To this union three children were born: Brenda, Carmen, and Tim.
ArWayne met Kay while working with her father on a job doing highway construction. He then continued working on various jobs as a jobsite mechanic throughout the Midwest, including Kansas and Oklahoma.
In 1973, the family moved back near Home and he started farming with his father. He also worked for Lorraine Schell operating and working on equipment.
ArWayne enjoyed farming with his son, Tim, son-in-law, Jim Heiman, his brother-in-law and nephews. He custom cut hay for many neighbors throughout Marshall County.
ArWayne volunteered for the Oketo Fire Department, operated a maintainer for Balderson Township, and worked as an area mechanic for friends and neighbors on their vehicles and tractors. He also enjoyed hunting coyotes and listening to polka music.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, LaVada and Jerry Fitzgerald; and nephew, Kirby Fitzgerald.
Survivors include his wife, Kay; daughters, Brenda (Jim) Heiman, Oketo, and Carmen Hill, Topeka; son, Tim Hill, Home; nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established to Children's Nebraska, a pediatric hospital and medical center in Omaha, NE. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
