Barbara (Drury) Richard, 80, of Marysville, Kan., died at her home on August 10, 2018.A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 18 at the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Marysville. Gary Phillips will officiate. Family visitation will begin one hour prior to the service and following the service.Private family burial will be held in the Marysville City Cemetery.Barbara Jo (Drury) Richard was born during a snowstorm on February 11, 1938 in Concordia, Kan., to LaVerne Charlotte (Larson) Drury and Josiah Virgil (Pete) Drury. Following her graduation from Concordia High School in 1956, Barbara worked at the Blade-Empire newspaper and then Boyd Oil Company in Concordia. In 1957, she married Raymond Dean Richard. The couple had two children, Jade and Scott, before divorcing in 1984. Barbara moved to Marysville in 1965 and remained there the rest of her life, working for Marysville Mutual Insurance Company for over 30 years and retiring in 2003. After being retired for a couple of years, Barb took a part-time job at Valley Vet Supply where she worked evenings taking orders over the phone. During her years at both jobs, Barb made close friendships that would last her lifetime.Barb was a member of Community Presbyterian Church in Marysville. She was an accomplished seamstress and crafter who generously shared her creations. She was an avid KU fan who attended football and basketball games whenever she had the opportunity and watched countless games on TV. Barb also enjoyed working crossword puzzles, binge-watching new television series on Netflix and shopping with her best friend, Sharon Chaulk.Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Vernie, and her brothers, Jim and Jere Drury.Survivors include children; Jade (Ron) Peters of Lenexa and Scott Richard of Marysville and a large extended family that includes cousins, in-laws and close friends.Memorial donations will go to the Marysville Public Library.
