Carol J. Bishop, 75, Axtell, died Monday, July 22, 2024 at Lifecare Center in Seneca.
Visitation was held Thursday, July 25, 2024, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Axtell Landreth Funeral Home in Axtell.
A rosary service was held at 7 p.m., Thursday, July 25 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Axtell.
Mass of Christian Burial was at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 26 at St. Michael's Catholic Church. Father Arul Carasala officiated. The musician was Rachel Ronnebaum. Music included "Amazing Grace" "In the Garden" "On Eagle's Wings" and "How Great Thou Art."
The pallbearers were Seth Bishop, Terry Krier, Charles Brown, Aaron Nelson, David Snyder and Terry Broxterman.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
Carol was born on February 21, 1949, to Wilber and Anna Marie (Deters) Bishop at the Axtell Hospital. Tutti, as she was commonly known to the family, was the oldest of eleven children. She attended school at St. Michael's Grade School, Axtell High School and Kansas State Teachers College (now known as Emporia State University). Her goal was to become a math teacher, which she fulfilled for 32 years. She primarily worked in the Baileyville and St. Benedict (B&B) School District.
An involved citizen, Carol was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Kansas National Education Association, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Nemaha County Retired School Personnel, Marshall County Agency on Aging, as well as the NEKS Area Agency on Aging, Alpha Kappa Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and Kansas Nebraska Family Consumer Extension Unit. Carol also served on the Axtell Public Library board, election board and local blood drives. In her spare time she loved to read, especially science fiction. She always carried a paperback novel in her purse.
Preceding her in death are her parents; brothers, Jon Charles Bishop and Kenton Bishop; sister-in-law, Amanda Bishop; and nephew, Mathias Krier.
Survivors include her sisters, Corrinne (Neeraj) Magotra, Longmeadow, MA, Christine (Terry) Krier, McPherson, KS, Carla Bishop, Axtell, KS, Cathy (Neal) Whitaker, Marion, KS, and Cynthia (Jerry) Eckles, Lake City, KS; brothers, Wilbur (Laurie) Bishop, Saraland, AL, David (Gigi) Bishop, Henderson, NV, and Seth Bishop, Axtell, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews.
