Charles "Charlie" F. Griswold

Charles “Charlie” F. Griswold 94, Marysville, died May 27, 2024, at Community Memorial Hospital.

The visitation was Thursday, May 30, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary.  The family received friends from 5-7 p.m.

A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 31, at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Marysville.  Pastor Julie Shields officiated.  Rachel Bena played the organ and Wayne Kruse was the soloist.  The songs were “The Lord’s Prayer”, “On Eagle’s Wings” “God Will Take Care of You” and “Seein’ My Father in Me”.

The pallbearers were Rick TateBill Elder, Jeff Ingersoll, Mike ChristenerBrennen Price, Jason Ingersoll and Heath Griswold.

The honorary pallbearers were Brittany TateLeslie Price, Lindsey ElderDolly Griswold, Karen Ingersoll and Alissa Christener.

The burial was in the Marysville City Cemetery.

Charlie was born July 12,1929, in Marysville to Daniel “Fred” and Charlotte “Lottie” Kloxin Griswold. He attended elementary and high school in Marysville, graduating in 1947.

In 1948, Charlie joined the Kansas Army National Guard. In 1960, he was called to active duty during the Berlin Wall Crisis.  Again in 1968, he was called to active duty and served 10 months in Vietnam.  Charlie was honorably discharged as a Chief Warrant Officer 4 and after 41 years of military service in the National Guard, he retired in 1989.

On April 24,1949, he married Delores” Dee” Polson at the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Marysville. They were blessed with three children, Cynthia “Cindy”, Douglas and Scott.

Charlie worked a few years with the U.S. Soil Conservation Service, Union Pacific Railroad, and farmed northeast of Oketo.  In 1960, he joined Georgia Pacific Corporation near Blue Rapids where he worked as Office Manager and Personnel and Safety Supervisor until retiring after 33 years of service.

After retirement Charlie and Dee enjoyed 24 years of traveling the U.S.A. and serving as hosts and tour guides for S&S Tours.

Charlie was active in his church, Evangelical United Church of Christ, serving several terms as President of the church council and council member, member of the church choir and community choir. He and Dee served over 30 years as church custodians. He was a life member of VFW Post #2699, member of the American Legion Post #163, Masonic Lodge #91, and past member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and Eagles Club in Marysville.

Charles and his wife, Dee, enjoyed ballroom dancing, roller skating, traveling with tour groups, ballgames of any kind for all the children and grandchildren and family gatherings.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dee; daughter, Cindy Ingersoll; sister, Evelyn Richardson; brother, Robert Griswold; and brother-in law, Warren Richardson.

Survivors include his sons, Douglas (Jacque) Griswold and Scott (Sherilyn) Griswold; son-in-law, Greg Ingersoll, all of Marysville; sister, Laura (Robert) Loaney, Cranberry,PA; sister-in-law, Willa Griswold, Marysville; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial fund has been established to the Evangelical United Church of Christ.  Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
