Walter “Dale” Foley, 79, of Beattie, Kan., died February 3, 2019 at his home. Visitation was Wednesday, February 6, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. A rosary service was held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church in Marysville. A funeral service was at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 7, at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church. Father Joseph Kieffer officiated. Organist was Rosemary Forst and the music selections were "Be Not Afraid," "Amazing Grace," "On Eagles Wings," "Song of Farewell" and "How Great Thou Art." Pallbearers were Joshua Volle, Mason Foley, Gabriel Martin, Jim Flower, Jr., Quinten Anderson and Mytchel Brown. Honorary pallbearers were Bill O'Toole, Allen Naaf, Leeman Weber, Tom Sandman, Tom Vogelsberg and Kenny Feldhausen. Burial was in St. Gregory’s Catholic Cemetery. Dale was born November 7, 1939 in Center Township, Marshall County, Kan., to Walter J. and Rose A. (Fritz) Foley. He grew up helping his dad on the farm. His uncle, Web Foley, taught him to drive a truck and run a caterpillar. He graduated from Marysville High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1960-66. On June 18, 1966, he married Verna Flower at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Blue Rapids, Kan. To this union one son and two daughters were born. They farmed in Marshall County. In 1985, Dale went to work for Hall Brothers as a mechanic, retiring in 2003. Dale enjoyed working outside and staying busy. He liked being outside farming, coon hunting, fishing, hunting, gardening, cars and horses. Dale also enjoyed family gatherings at the family farm playing baseball, horse shoes, and cards, especially pitch. He played friendly or not so friendly games of cards. Dale especially enjoyed spending time with his grandkids. He liked to socialize and in his younger years he enjoyed going to parties and dances and getting into any kind of mischief. He loved to make people laugh. Dale was a hardworking, fun loving, ornery, friendly guy who enjoyed life to the fullest. He enjoyed sitting on the front porch in Beattie entertaining anybody who took the time to stop and visit. He was a member of the Marysville American Legion and the Beattie American Legion. Dale was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Donald “Jack” Foley, Joyce Lindeen, Edward Foley, Alice Horner and Darrel “Tom” Foley. Survivors include his wife, Verna; children, Jodi (Ron) Anderson, Frankfort, Kan., Stephen (Michelle) Foley, Beattie, and Amanda (Brian) Clelland, Beattie; sister, Betty Wiltfong, Norton, Kan.; 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
