Donald Lee Scheibe, 82, of Beattie, Kan., died Saturday September 22, 2018 at Bryan Medical Center in Lincoln, Neb.Visitation was held Tuesday, September 25, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m.A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 26, at the Beattie United Methodist Church.The pallbearers were Jared Scheibe, Noah Scheibe, Gavin Scheibe, Khristian Scheibe, Zachary Scheibe and Keith Heideman.Burial was in the Beattie Union Cemetery.Don was born April 23, 1936, at Marysville to Kenneth and Elnora (Farrell) Scheibe. He married Edith Wells at the Methodist Church, the current Lee Dam Art Center in Marysville. They were blessed with three children, Claude, Kenneth and Kimberly.Don started working at the age of 12 at the Isis Theatre (currently known as the Astro theatre). He also worked as a clerk at Larkin’s grocery store. In 1954 he enlisted in the National Guard and in 1956 the United States Army. He was a Vietnam Veteran. He retired on March 31, 1976 as a Sargent First Class. He also worked for Landoll Corporation as a machinist and a custodian for Summerfield School.While in the Army Don lived in many states and also Okinawa for 4 years. He was instrumental in getting the Marysville Country Club lake cleaned out and expanded as well as the Marysville Airport and Summerfield Main street painted in the late 70’s. Don was one of the first original 50 soldiers for the new Marysville Armory. After retirement Don and Edith made their home in Summerfield. In February of 1990 they moved to Beattie.Don was a member of the Lions Club and American Legion. He was on the committee for the Marshall County Veterans Memorial Wall and served on the Summerfield City Council and City Marshall for Summerfield.He enjoyed dancing and listening to Oldies, John Wayne movies, Astronomy & History, the Weather Channel and Electronics. Don was known for his unique dance moves and getting many a lady on the dance floor. His favorite candy bars were chocolate Charleston Chews and Fifth Avenue’s. Don enjoyed playing cards and performing card tricks. He enjoyed his woodworking shop, creating collegiate light boxes and many other things. He was known for his home brew.He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith in 2016; parents; and sister, Sarah.Survivors include his sons, Claude (Lori) Scheibe, Summerfield, and Kenneth (Michelle) Scheibe, Beattie; daughter, Kimberly (Bryce) Goings, Beattie; sisters, Lenora Henning, Elm Grove, LA, and Carleen (Bob) Schneider, Beattie; brothers, Raymond (Emily) Scheibe, Tacoma, WA, and Lee Maendele, Hastings, NE; grandchildren, Andrea (Keith) Heideman, Jared (Renee) Scheibe, Gavin, Khristian, Zachary and Noah Scheibe, and Larissa Goings; and great-grandchildren, Ephrum, Jayden and Kodi Ann Heideman, Kathryne Scheibe and Avery Scheibe.A memorial fund has been established with the Marshall County Veterans Memorial Wall.
