Dorothy L. Tilley, 93, died November 23, 2020 at Eastridge Nursing Home in Centralia, KS. A graveside funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 27 at the Vermillion Cemetery. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior at the cemetery. Rev. Jim Akins will officiate. Rheta Matson will sing “Amazing Grace”. The pallbearers will be Dan Matson, Alex Matson, Cole Matson, Brian Matson, Bobby Meade and Lucas Meade. Dorothy was born on April 12, 1927, in Blue Rapids, Kansas to Glenn and Massie (Kneisteadt) Lesslie. She worked as a teacher before moving to Kansas City. On September 27, 1953, she was united in marriage to Melvin Tilley in Mississippi. They lived in Kansas City, where she worked in accounting at a manufacturing company. After she and her husband retired in 1983, they moved to Vermillion. Dorothy loved to travel, they visited all fifty states and Mexico and wintered in Texas. She belonged to the Red Hat Society, Beta Sigma Phi, American Legion Auxiliary and for several years, was a Marshall County Fair volunteer. She kept busy with crafts and cross stitch. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Melvin; son-in-law, Bobbie Hardesty; brother, Orville Lesslie; and sisters, Delores Matson and Arvillamae Henderson. Survivors include daughter, Diana Hardesty; granddaughter, Sherri Hardesty; two great grandchildren, Ariana McGill and Hunter Folsom; sister-in-law Marcene Lesslie; and many nieces and nephews.
