Duane Joseph Hynek, 89, Hanover, KS, died March 14, 2021 at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville. Visitation was Thursday, March 18 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Hanover Mortuary in Hanover. A vigil service was held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday at St. John's Catholic Church in Hanover. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 19 at St. John's Catholic Church. Father Joseph Kieffer officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Duane was born September 24th, 1931 near Hanover to John and Annastacia (Bruna) Hynek. He attended St. John’s Catholic Grade School and graduated from Hanover High School in 1949. He then returned home to live with his dad and stepmother after being raised by his aunt and uncle since his mother died when he was just five years old. He was in the national guard for three years before serving in the army for two years, 16 months of which were spent in Korea during the Korean War. He was a lifelong farmer and loved his horses and cattle. In his spare time, he loved to go fishing, help with gardening, and work crossword puzzles. He enjoyed spending time with his family and attending all his children’s activities as well as his grandchildren’s. He was a lifelong member of St. John’s Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the American Legion, a 4-H leader for many years, and served eight years on the USD 223 schoolboard. On September 26th, 1956 he was united in marriage to Edna Helmlinger at St. John’s Catholic Church. From this marriage they were blessed with six adopted children and 64 years of happiness together. He was proceeded in death by his parents John and Annastacia, his stepmother Milly, his sister Patricia, and his granddaughter Jessie. He is survived by his wife Edna, his brother John, his six children: Denise (Graham) Foust, David (Jill) Hynek, Amy (Jody) Dalebout, Alan (Kathy) Hynek, Lori (Mark) Hagedorn, and Lee (Ariel) Hynek, 15 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
