Edgar “Eddie” Arthur Niemeier, 93, died peacefully in his sleep at Cambridge Place, Marysville, KS, on March 10, 2019. Visitation was Wednesday, March 13, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 14, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Marysville. Rev. Philip T. Miller officiated. Grace Miller played the organ while the congregation sang “Just as I Am, without One Plea”, “Abide with Me” and “How Great Thou Art”. The pallbearers were Richard Doyle, Leland Edgar, Larry Harnisch, Kelly Koch, Kyle Swart and David Walkowiak. Burial was in the Home City Cemetery. Eddie was born November 3, 1925, on the home place ¼ mile west of Bremen, KS. He was the sixth child of 10 children born to the marriage of Herman and Wilhelmine “Minnie” (Lohse) Niemeier. He had a twin sister Edna. He was baptized November 15, 1925, at Immanuael Lutheran Church (Hermansberg), Bremen, KS. His sponsors were Wilhelm Leseberg, Arthur Niemeier, and Ferdinand Stohs. He was confirmed March 17, 1940, at the same church. His confirmation verse was Genesis 15:1. He completed eight years of school at the public and parochial county schools at Bremen. During his teenage years, he helped his dad and brother farm the home place. He worked construction for Hall Brothers and later for Van Dorn Construction, until his retirement. He married Shirley Mae Niemann in 1955. They celebrated 27 years together until she passed away in 1982. They had no children. He married Sophia Ruhkamp Edgar in 1984. They were married for 23 years before she passed away in 2009. Eddie’s pastimes over his lifetime included bowling, card playing, square dancing, polka dances, playing with his step-greatgrandchildren and driving the country roads checking farm crops. Preceding him in death were his parents, Herman and Wilhelmine Niemeier; five sisters, Edna Niemeier (infant), Elsie Gerdes, Hermiena Metschke, Orlinda Harnisch, Lola Mae Blackwood and Verda Mueller; two brothers, Alfred and Adelbert “Abby” Niemeier; and four nephews. Survivors include one sister, Delores Koch of Bennington, NE; 12 nephews and 9 nieces; 2 step children, Barb (Richard) Doyle, Avinger, TX, and Leland (Debby) Edgar, Seagoville, TX; 5 step-grandchildren and 11 step-great grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established to the Mt. Calvary Building Fund. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
