Eldor I. Duensing

Eldor I. Duensing, 92, Bremen, died Thursday, October 24, 2024, at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville.

Visitation was held on Sunday, October 27, 2024, from 4 to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville.

A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 28, 2024, at Immanuel Lutheran (Hermansberg) Church, Bremen. Pastor Aaron Fenker, Sr. officiated. Dayna Scheele was the organist and hymns included “O Holy Spirit Grant Us Grace”, “Thanks to Thee O Christ Victorious” and “Blest Be the Tie That Binds.”

Pallbearers were Andrew Myers, Stanley Muleski, Bradley Muleski, Connor Myers, Mark Muleski, Joshua Duensing, Thomas Clark, David Linkugel, Larry Luedders, Molly Myers, Jordynn Duensing and Adriel Duensing.

Burial with military honors was held in the Church Cemetery.

Eldor Irvin Duensing was born November 14, 1931, at Brighton, CO, on the family farm to Fred H. and Irma A. (Stunkel) Duensing. He was brought into the Lord’s family through Holy Baptism on November 29, 1931, and reaffirmed that faith through the rite on Confirmation on March 25, 1945, at Zion Lutheran Church in Brighton, CO. Eldor attended Zion Lutheran Grade School for eight years and in 1946 the family moved to Marshall County Kansas. In 1949, he graduated from Marysville High School.

Eldor enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in April of 1952 and received a honorable discharge in 1956 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. His tour included combat in the Korean War, arriving there on his 21st birthday. He was also stationed at Bergstrom AFB SAC and deployed to England. In 1955 he received the Outstanding Airman Award.

After his discharge, Eldor purchased the Sedlacek Hardware Store in Bremen in 1956 and renamed it to Duensing Hardware. He also worked as a postal clerk in Bremen and was appointed postmaster in July of 1958 which he served until retirement in July of 2005.

On September 21, 1958, Eldor was united in marriage to Velma Lohse at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bremen. They were blessed with three children, Dana Joy, Shelly Kay and Don Wayne.

Eldor was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he served in many offices, church elder, on the school board, numerous committees and taught Sunday school. He was a member of the Lutheran Layman’s League, The American Legion Post 306 in Hanover and the Marshall County Historical Society. He was a girls’ softball coach for a number of years, delivered meals on wheels in Washington County from Friendly Corners and to the Kloppenberg Center in Hanover for several years. He enjoyed reading, playing cards, gardening, raising cattle and raising dogs. For many years, he patiently lived with Parkinson’s Disease.

Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter, Dana Joy Muleski in 2013; sisters, Eileen Linkugel and Bernice Luedders; a brother, Leroy Duensing; and father and mother-in-law, Lawrence and Alma Lohse.

Survivors include his wife, Velma; daughter, Shelly Myers, Topeka, KS; son, Don (Elaine) Duensing, Shattuc, IL; son-in-law, Steven (Denise) Muleski, Park City, KS; grandchildren, Andrew (Ashley) Myers, Connor Myers, Molly (Thomas Clark) Myers, Stanley Muleski, Bradley (Elisabeth) Muleski, Mark (Chelsi) Muleski, Joshua, Jordynn and Adriel Duensing; great-grandsons, Henry Muleski and James Clark; sisters-in-law, Arlene Duensing, Delma Richardson, Anita Duensing; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial fund is established to be designated later. Contributions may be sent to Eldor Duensing Memorial Fund in care of Kinsley Mortuary, Marysville, KS.
