Eleanor Jane Zimmerman, aged 80, peacefully passed away on December 28, 2024, at Cambridge Place in Marysville, following a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Visitation took place on Friday, January 3, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service was held on Saturday, January 4, at 10:00 a.m., also at Kinsley Mortuary, followed by burial at Summerfield Cemetery. Jeremy Henderson officiated.
The pallbearers were Jancy Meyer, Samantha Farr, Christina Files, MycKenzie Goetz, Loriann Kenworthy and Ashley Genschorck. The honorary palbearers were Leon Volle, Rodan Files, Justin Riffey, Waylon Farr, George Volle, Joseph Volle, Nicholas Files, Hunter Riffey, Conagher Farr, Andrew Barnhill, Parker Bergman, MycKenna Goetz, MycKayla Goetz, Christopher Volle, Leila Sharafeddin, Tyler Genschorck, Sylvia Genschorck and Danielle Sharafeddin.
Jane was born on January 13, 1944, in Marysville, Kansas, to Thomas William Thomas and Katherine Francis Purtell. She was a lifelong resident of Marshall and Nemaha counties, except for a brief period in Kansas City, Missouri.
Throughout her life, Jane was a dedicated member of her community, with a career that included working as a waitress at The Broadway Café and the Union Pacific Hotel, alongside roles at three nursing facilities and SKF (formerly CR Industries) in Seneca, from which she retired in 2009.
Jane treasured her time spent with family and friends and enjoyed a variety of activities including traveling, bowling, bingo, playing cards, crossword puzzles, dancing, and reading. She also found joy in maintaining correspondence with over 300 pen pals around the world. She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by all whose lives she touched.
She is preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Mervin Leon Volle of Summerfield and Eldon Jacob Zimmerman of Marysville; three siblings, Martin Lewis Thomas, Robert Eugene Walsh, both of Blue Rapids, and Betty Jean Marley of Palatine, IL; son, Mervin Lee Volle of Marysville; one grandson, Nicholas Drew Volle; one great-grandson, Jailyn Diego Goetz; and son-in-law, Daniel Barnhill.
Jane is survived by her children, Gayla (Gerry) Snyder of Manhattan, KS, Pamela Barnhill of Washington, KS, and Martin (Melissa) Volle of Summerfield, KS; one brother, William Thomas of Waterville, KS; as well as 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
