Francis Wacek, 85, died October 9, 2019 at Community Memorial Healthcare, Marysville. Visitation was Friday, October 11, from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary, Marysville. A rosary service was held at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, October 12 at St. Gregory's Catholic Church, Marysville with the funeral service following at 10 a.m. Father Jim Shaughnessy officiated. Musicians were Dolores Bruna and Michele Beaman. Hymns were “Heart of Jesus,” “Panis Angelicus,” “Prayer of St. Francis,” “Precious Lord” and “Ave Maria.” Pallbearers were David Stump, William Lamb, Carl Pralle, Dr. Jim Bongers, Mark Borgerding and Dr. Michael Frank. Burial was in St. Gregory's Catholic Cemetery. Francis was born March 22, 1934 at Frankfort, KS. to Frank and Josephine (Luznicky) Wacek. He graduated from Irving High School in 1952. From an early age Francis knew he was going to be a farmer. According to his sister, Francis would have paid Marion to do his chores including the milking before breakfast. Francis farmed with his dad and brother and together received the Marshall County Soil Conservation Award in 1959. Francis, Marion and Joan also received the Marshall County Grassland Award in 1995. There was always grass in Francis’s pastures even in the driest years because of his management. He was a care giver to his cow herd of Horned Herefords. With the majority calving in January and February in a shed that Marion and Francis built to protect the herd from the cold and snow. He was very conservative and disliked taxes but was willing to serve as County Commissioner from 1981 to 1985. Francis was proud of his Merrimac and Irving roots. He could always talk about the way it was before Tuttle Creek. Preceding him in death were his parents; and brother, Marion Wacek. He is survived by his sister, Joan Wacek, Blue Rapids. A memorial fund is established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
