Frank Huffman, 85, of Marysville, KS, died Friday, March 20, 2020 at Bryan West Hospital in Lincoln, NE. A public memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 19, 2022 at the United Methodist Church in Marysville. Due to Covid-19 private services were held two years ago. The pallbearers were Amy Hurtado, Cristian Hurtado, Nina Brackett, Zachary Brackett, Julie Jacques, Darren Jacques, Lisa Boddington and Alan Boddington. Burial was in St. Gregory's Catholic Cemetery. Frank was born on April 28, 1934 at Cullison, KS to Jerry Floyd and Hazel Mae (McKibben) Huffman. He grew up in the Cullison and Preston communities near Pratt and graduated from Preston High School in 1952. Following high school, Frank worked on the family farm, in construction and was in the Navy Reserves. In December 1956, he enlisted in the United States Army. He worked on helicopters and other aircraft in Army Aviation and spent two years in Munich and Augsburg, Germany. After being honorably discharged in December 1959, Frank attended college at Pratt Junior College and Kansas State Teacher’s College in Emporia, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Education in January 1965. He taught social studies at Marion Junior High School from 1966 to 1968 and at Cottonwood Falls High School from 1968 to 1969. Frank received a Master of Science in Guidance and Counseling from Emporia State University in 1970 and served as the guidance counselor at Atchison County Community High School in Effingham from 1970 to 1976. Frank then worked for Kaiser Aluminum Company as an over the road truck driver for two years. He moved to Marysville in August 1978, where he worked for USD 364 as the junior high guidance counselor and 7th grade geography teacher until his retirement in 1996. Frank also farmed, growing milo, soybeans and wheat. After he retired from teaching, he operated a custom baling and swathing business, serving farmers in the Marshall County area until 2013. He was an avid reader; his favorite topics were politics and World War II. Frank enjoyed spending time with his girls, having coffee with friends, playing computer games and watching MSNBC. Frank married Margaret Mary Lieb on July 22, 1972 at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Onaga. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion. Preceding him in death were his parents; and four sisters, Doris, Anna, Mary and Irene. Survivors include his wife, Margaret; four daughters, Amy (Cristian) Hurtado, Manassas, VA, Nina (Zachary) Brackett, Charlottesville, VA, Julie (Darren) Jacques, Lawrence, KS, and Lisa (Alan) Boddington, Goondiwindi, Australia; five grandchildren, Andrea and Alicia Jacques and Benjamin, Isabelle and Cristian Boddington. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
