Gene F. Bernasek, 93, of Beattie, KS, died February 11, 2022, at Cambridge Place in Marysville. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 14, at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Father Jim Shaughnessy will officiate. Deb Landoll will play the organ. The pallbearers will be Shane Beachler, Weston Beachler, Clint Wenzl, Daryl Wenzl, Chase Billings and Zach Weeks. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at Axtell, KS. Gene was born to Frank and Gladys (Davisson) Bernasek on March 10, 1928, near Axtell. In 1946, he graduated from Axtell High School and joined the U.S. Army and was stationed at Ft. Benning, GA. After returning from the Army, Gene farmed near Axtell until retiring at the age of 62. On June 18, 1982, he married Estella (Stallbaumer) Weeks at St. Malachy’s Catholic Church in Beattie. He loved farming, watching sports and traveling with his wife. Estella preceded him in death on November 4, 2020. Survivors include his stepchildren, Janice (Lloyd) Wenzl, Vermillion, and Jim (Mary) Weeks, Beattie; brothers, Duane Bernasek, Beattie, Galen (Rosalie) Bernasek, Washington, and Gary (Connie) Bernasek, Valley Falls; sister, June Woodyard, Loveland, CO; five step grandchildren and fourteen step great-grandchildren.
