Glen H. Floyd, 93, of Beattie, KS, died May 9, 2024, at the Frankfort Community Care Home with his family by his side.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday, May 13 at Kinsley Mortuary.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 14 at the Beattie Union Cemetery. Pastor Serene Samuel will officiate. Feel free to bring a chair.
The pallbearers will be Dustin Floyd, Dalen Floyd, Ryan Johnson, Nick Wolfe, Kevin Jasko, Dennis Jasko, Tom Floyd and John Black.
The honorary pallbearers will be Marvin Horalek, Kenny Johnson, Dennis Tencleve, Doug Booth, Jay Dwerlkotte, Harold Armstrong, Arlin Krebs, Corey Bowles and Mike Griffee.
Glen was born on June 22, 1930, near Lillis, KS, to Raymond and Florene (Isaacson) Floyd. He attended grade school in Lillis and Vliets and graduated from Beattie High School in 1948.
He worked with the state department, where he earned his nickname “Doggy”, worked for Commodity Credit Corporation and drove for Studer Truck Line. He also had a corn shelling operation. In the early 60’s, Glen bought a combine and started a custom harvesting business. They did the custom wheat harvest run for over 50 years, traveling from southern Kansas to North Dakota. Glen continued to help his grandson harvest locally after that for several years. Glen also started Floyd Truck Line in the 60's and later passed the business to his son, Kent.
On August 16, 1953, he married Jean Burks at Richland Center Church. They lived in Beattie.
After retiring, Glen ran a township maintainer to keep busy. He served on the Beattie City Council and was a member of Beattie United Methodist Church and Beattie Pride.
Glen was an avid hunter and enjoyed hunting racoons, coyotes, deer, turkey, and fishing with his son, grandsons and nephews. He enjoyed Saturday morning breakfasts with his neighbors at Little Hap’s.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jean on February 28, 2024; siblings, Betty Brott, Rae Mona Lampe, Marilyn Weaver and Galen Floyd.Survivors include children, Kent (Lynette) Floyd, Beattie, and K'Lyn (Steve) Bergman, Frankfort; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Ryan and Amy Johnson and children Rylan, Jadyn Johnson, Jordyn Nietfeld, Rylee and Nick Wolfe and children Brynlee, Adlee, Sadie, Dusty and Kim Floyd, and Dalen Floyd; and sister, Lois Ann Jasko, Topeka.
A memorial fund has been established and all donations will go towards benefiting the Beattie community. Contributions may be made to the Glen Floyd Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
