Harold "Buck" L. Gibson

June 29, 1929 — July 15, 2019

Harold L. "Buck" Gibson, 90, Oketo, died Monday, July 15, 2019 at his home. Visitation was Wednesday, July 17, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary, Marysville. A funeral service was held 10 a.m., Thursday, July 18 at Kinsley Mortuary.  Rev. Marilyn Sweet officiated.  Music was provided by Theresa and John Knabe.  Hymns were "Prayer of St. Francis" and "How Great Thou Art." Pallbearers were Jared Malcolm, Jake Malcolm, Owen Malcolm, Steve Gibson, Dick Olmsted and Jerome Nietfeld.  Burial was in Deer Creek Cemetery, north of Marysville. Harold was born June 29, 1929, at Marietta, Kan. to Elmer and Hazel (Suggett) Gibson.  He attended Bommer and Oketo Schools.  Harold also served during the Korean Conflict.  Upon his return, he worked several jobs, including at a dairy in Topeka.  He worked twenty-two years for the Kansas Department of Transportation in Marysville and operated a road grader for Balderson Township, twelve years. On November 21, 1954, he was united in marriage to Verna J. Gnagy.  They had one daughter, Carla. Harold enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. Especially his Kennebec potatoes and sweet Spanish onions.  His greatest enjoyment was writing letters. Preceding him in death were his parents; three sisters, Eula, Audrey and Lila; son-in-law, Roger Malcolm; and an infant brother. Survivors include his wife, Verna; daughter, Carla Malcolm, Axtell; three grandchildren, Jordie Malcolm, Topeka, Jared Malcolm, Marysville, Jake Malcolm, LaCrosse; three great grandchildren, Owen Lee Malcolm, Laynie Jo Malcolm and Baylor Lee Malcolm; and brother, Lyle Gibson, Horton. A memorial fund is established and will be designated later.  Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
