Irene M. Frerking, 85, Summerfield, died September 8, 2019 at Cambridge Place in Marysville. A celebration of life will be held 11 a.m., Friday, September 20 at First Lutheran Church in Summerfield. Irene was born January 30, 1934 to Hope and Irene (Bruss) Sewell at Tucson, AZ, the youngest of eight children. She attended school, worked as a secretary, and did odd jobs in Tucson. While attending a New Year’s Eve party at Grace Lutheran Church, she met Leonard Frerking, who was stationed at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base and they were married on August 30, 1952. They lived in Tucson and later moved to Summerfield where she was active in the Dorcas church group, West Stateline Club, American Legion Auxiliary and the Red Hat Society. Irene enjoyed going to her family’s sporting events, gardening, quilting, making crafts, sewing and babysitting, after she and Leonard sold the grocery store in Summerfield in November of 1979. She loved being “Grandma” to many kids around town and even when she had Alzheimer’s, she found joy in having children around her. She and Leonard enjoyed going to Indian Lake, TX and being “Snowbirds” for over 20 years. Irene was always the life of the party, willing to help others and will be missed by many of her friends and family. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Leonard; mother and father-in-law, William and Martha Frerking; brother-in-law, Arlan (Joyce) Frerking; sister-in-law, Inez Plegge; brothers, Wilbur (Virginia) Sewell, Hope (June) Sewell; sisters, Caroline (John) Mettler, Alma (Vern) Bouchee, Martha (Carl) Appelin; and two infant siblings, Betha Sewell and Arthur Sewell.
