Irene L. Hicks

Irene L. Hicks, 93, of Frankfort, KS., died peacefully, Saturday, April 27, 2019 at the Frankfort Community Care Home. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 4, 2019 at the Prospect Hill Cemetery near Blue Rapids, Ks. Irene was born on July 15, 1925 in rural Frankfort to Chester F. and Anna (Rosedahl) Black. Irene married Ernest M. Hicks in 1943. In the Mid 60’s, Irene owned and operated “Irene’s Café” in downtown Frankfort, for a short duration. Following that she accepted a job in the dietary department at the Frankfort Care Home, where she retired after more than 30 years. In her day loved to garden, sew, cook and go for walks. Irene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernest in 1993; 2 sisters, Evelyn Cochran and Helen Donnelly; 2 brothers, Marvin “Bud” Black and Ed Black; and in 2011, her daughter-in-law Dorothy Hicks. She is survived by her son, Larry Hicks of Frankfort; three grandchildren, Lori (Corbin) Witt, Junction City, Sheri (Chris) Hybarger, Wamego and Tami (Lance) Stowell, Vermillion; and six great-grandchildren, Chelsie and Shelbie Witt, Payton Hybarger, and Garrison, Bryce, and Tana Stowell. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later date. Contributions may be sent in care of Padden Funeral Chapel in Frankfort.
