Irene Marschman, 97, Lincoln, NE, formerly of Marysville, KS, died Friday, December 13, 2019 at Grace Point Assisted Living in Lincoln. Visitation was Wednesday, December 18, from noon until 9 p.m at Kinsley Mortuary. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 19 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Marysville. Rev. Philip Miller officiated. The pallbearers were Brandon Marschman, Bryant Marschman, Taylor Pike, Jessica Garcia, Todd Heptig and Brendan Pike. The honorary pallbearers were Dakota Crim, Bryce DiMarzio, Bode DiMarzio, Ryan Garcia, Keaton Marschman and Marissa Marschman Burial was in the Marysville City Cemetery. Irene was born on October 29, 1922 to Emil and Marie (Moellenbrendt) Brunkow at Western, NE. In 1940, she graduated Western High School and received her teaching certificate. On December 3, 1944, she was united in marriage to Elmer Marschman at St. John’s Evangelical Church, Western, NE. Irene taught country school and when they moved to Marysville she was the secretary at Lincoln Elementary School for many years. She was a member of Mt Calvary Lutheran Church and enjoyed singing in the choir, making noodles for the church soup suppers, and helping with any other church events. Irene enjoyed spending the holidays with family, taking vacations, and camping in Colorado. Irene and Elmer camped for years and after his death she went on several bus tours and cruises. Irene enjoyed reading, gardening, baking and traveling. She canned fruit, vegetables, and meat. Saturday mornings were for baking, cinnamon rolls, bread and pies. She belonged to two camping clubs and two square dance clubs. Irene volunteered at the Senior Center and helped with local events. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Elmer in 2002; son, Dennis Marschman; brothers, Richard Brunkow, Ervin Brunkow; and sister, Inez Glassock. Survivors include children, Janis Strobbe, Dunbar, NE, Kent (Monica) Marschman, Lincoln, NE, Donn Marschman, Moscow, ID; twelve grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
