Jim was born in Marysville on February 16, 1942, the youngest of five children of Nils and Anna Rickson Nork. His parents preceded him in death as did his siblings, Marjorie Nork Livingston, Mary Nork Gaston, Shirley Nork Lawrence and John “Jack” Nork.
After graduating from Marysville High School in 1960, Jim served briefly in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. Other than his time in the military, he lived in Marysville his entire life, residing mostly at 908 North 9th Street, the family home for nearly 100 years.
Until his retirement, Jim worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as a brakeman. After retirement he remained passionate about the Marysville Depot Preservation project, contributing both time and money to help restore the historic building. He had an active and curious mind and enjoyed a wide range of interests, including photography, metal detecting, collecting memorabilia such as old movie posters and travel to visit family members near and far.
Jim was dearly loved by his nieces and nephews and enjoyed spending time with them. When they were young, he’d take them around to various points of interest in and around Marysville, treat them to hamburgers and Pepsi Colas (Jim was a serious Pepsi fan), and show them old silent reel-to-reel movies in the backyard. Two nephews, Steve Livingston and Paul Gaston, preceded him in death. Surviving nieces and nephews are Doug Gaston, Mary Livingston Roe, Mike Livingston, Peg Livingston Longstaff, Anita Livingston Doyle, Larry Livingston, John Livingston, Roberta Lawrence Mead, Pat Lawrence Bauer, Laura Lawrence, Mary Lawrence Smith and Chris Lawrence Bates.
A memorial fund has been established to support the Marysville Union Pacific Depot Preservation Society. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary, P.O. Box 147, Marysville, KS 66508.
