Joan L. Spunaugle, 93, of Frankfort, KS, passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at Country Living in Marysville, KS.
Visitation was on Friday, January 3, 2025, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Padden Funeral Chapel in Frankfort. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 4 at the United Methodist Church in Frankfort. Rev. Priscilla Kaimathiri officiated. Janet Plegge was the organist and Angie Armstrong sang. The pallbearers were Justin Robinson, Ethan Samuelson, Andy Edwards, Aaron Roberts, Jimmy Roberts, Brennen Price, and Rick Tate.
Burial took place at 1 p.m. in Prospect Hill Cemetery, north of Blue Rapids.
Joan was born in Irving, KS on November 16, 1931, the youngest of 8 children, to Harry D. and Mae Durgin Frank. She graduated from Irving High School in 1949. Joan was united in marriage to Everett Spunaugle on September 4, 1949, in the Methodist Manse of Blue Rapids by Reverend Robert Williams. This union was blessed with four daughters.
Everett and Joan started their life together in Irving, moving to Frankfort in March of 1960. They spent the first 25 years of their married life calling square and round dances and giving lessons. For the next 25 years, they promoted and worked for the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs. Joan was a member of the Pricilla Club, E.H.U., Red Hats, Odd Fellows, Rebekahs, and the Frankfort United Methodist Church.
In 1967, Joan went to work for Clawson Printing in Frankfort and enjoyed the 25 years she spent there. She liked to watch and feed the birds, vegetable gardening, flowers, and house plants. Joan was an avid Royals and Chiefs fan and was also entertained by watching her grandchildren play sports. She dearly loved her family and cherished spending time with all of them.
Preceding Joan in death was her husband, Everett Spunaugle on November 22, 2019; parents; stepmother, Carrie Larson Frank; two brothers, Charles Frank, and Donald Frank; five sisters, Loma Wagor, Maxine Behrens, Thelma Hudson, Maeaileen Hantak and Phyllis Luck, and son-in-law, Jerry Scritchfield.
Survivors include her four daughters, Vicki (Phil) Robinson, Salina, KS, Candace Scritchfield, Home, KS, Jacque (Doug) Griswold and Jodi (Kevin) Samuelson, both of Marysville, seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
