It is with great sadness to announce the passing of JoAnn (Detter) Welch, 86, of Frankfort, on Monday, May 21, 2018 at the age of 86.A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 25 at the United Methodist Church in Frankfort. Visitation is one hour prior to service time at the church. Rev. Jim Akins will officiate. The musicians will be Janet Plegge and Kim Stewart. Music will include “Angels Among Us”, “Jealous of the Angels” and “Hallelujah”.The honorary pallbearers will be Michael B. Tilley, Joseph R. Tilley, Shawn P. Tilley, Matthew B. Droge, Michelle R. Fincham, Zachary A. Droge, Jackson D. Welch, Austin G. Welch and Owen C. Welch.Burial will be in Frankfort City Cemetery.JoAnn was born to Lillie Pearl (Varble) and Walter J. Detter on July 12, 1931 in El Dorado, Kansas. In 1950, she graduated from Hoisington High School and was later crowned the first Miss Hoisington. JoAnn was united in marriage to Jack D. Welch on April 8, 1953 in Hoisington, Kansas.In October, they moved to Frankfort; where with brothers and spouses bought Maneval’s Locker. The brothers and their wives operated Welch Brothers Meat Co. until 2003, where for many years, she was the bookkeeper for the various businesses.JoAnn was devoted to her husband, Jack, and their three children, Roxanne, Kim, and Bart. She enjoyed supporting their activities and encouraged their goals. She belonged to Civic Club, Eastern Star, women’s bridge and couple’s bridge. JoAnn and Jack were members of the United Methodist Church.She was a great fan of her nine grandchildren and loved sharing their accomplishments with others. Later, she treasured spending time with and being a part of her five great granddaughters’ and great-grandson’s activities and visits.JoAnn is preceded in death by her parents, Lillie and Walter; brother, Bobby Detter; and sister, Betty Corcoran.She is survived by her husband, Jack, of the home; daughters, Roxanne Tilley (Bob) of Frankfort; Kim Droge (Dan) of Manhattan; son, Bart Welch (Sheila) of Cave Creek, AZ; sister, Nancy Lindquist (Jerry) of Sun City West, AZ; eight grandsons, one granddaughter, five great-granddaughters and one great-grandson; and numerous extended family and friends who loved her dearly.She will be deeply missed as she was generous and loving with a beautiful spirit.A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later.
