Joe L. Jenkins, 98, of Marysville, KS, died Friday, December 10, 2021 at The Lighthouse in Marysville. Visitation will be Monday, December 13, 2021, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 14 at the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Marysville. Rev. Shannon Borgman will officiate. Gina Miller will be the organist and Wayne Kruse will sing. The hymn will be "On Eagles Wings". Pallbearers are Justin Jenkins, Mark Jenkins, Wade Pinkham, Eric Schmitz, Aaron Jackson, and Jesse Edwards. Burial will be in the Marysville City Cemetery. Joe was born March 11, 1923, to James and Ethel (Conner) Jenkins in Gage County Nebraska. He graduated from Wymore High School in 1943. Joe served in the Army Air Corps and proudly fought during the World War II D-Day invasion of Normandy, France at Omaha Beach. This included the capture of Sainte-Mère-Église, France from the Germans later that day. He also fought in the Battle of Saint-Lô ("The Capital of the Ruins") and the infamous Battle of the Bulge. On August 3, 1946 he married Betty Leupold in Belleville, KS. Joe was a mechanic at Boss Motors, Leupold Motors, and subsequently Nordhus Motors where he finished out his mechanic career. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and he especially loved helping his son Bill with farming. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty; daughter, Becky Pinkham; infant children, John and Sherri; brothers, Lee and Chet; and sister, Leona. Survivors include son, Bill (Deneise) Jenkins, Marysville; son-in-law, Ted Pinkham, Marysville; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established to the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Marysville. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
