Richard “Joe” Vogelsberg, 60, of Home, KS, passed away June 11, 2023, at Bryan West in Lincoln, NE. Visitation will be held from noon to 5 p.m., Thursday, June 15, at Kinsley Mortuary. A rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at St. Malachy's Catholic Church in Beattie, KS. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 16, at St. Malachy's Catholic Church. Father Jim Shaughnessy will officiate. The pallbearers are Matthew Vogelsberg, Patrick Vogelsberg, JJ Vogelsberg, Isaac Busch, Noah Busch, Jason Schell, Jacob Lutjemeier, James Vogelsberg and Tom Vogelsberg Burial will be held at St. Patrick's Cemetery north of Beattie. Joe was born on July 2, 1962, in Marysville, KS, to John R. and Loretta Jean (Goin) Vogelsberg. In 1980, he graduated from Marysville High School and attended Cloud County Community College, where he played baseball. On April 15, 1994, he was united in marriage to Jessie Hurlburt at Branson, MO. To this union two children were born, Caleb and Libbie. Joe farmed and worked as a nurse’s aide at Community Memorial Hospital Long Term Care. He enjoyed fishing, reading, watching sports, and in his younger years played baseball, football and wrestling. He liked to take rides in his Jeep while drinking a diet Pepsi, and usually ended up at the gas station or Little Haps to visit with friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie; parents; and brother, Raymond Vogelsberg. Survivors include his children, Caleb (Britney) Vogelsberg, Springfield, MO, and Libbie Vogelsberg, Topeka, KS; siblings, Caryl (John) Schell, Centralia, KS, R.J. (Sharon) Vogelsberg, Marysville, Nancy Vogelsberg-Busch, Home and Barbara Lutjemeier (Joe Hodson), Manhattan, KS; seven nephews, Jason Schell, J.J. Vogelsberg, Matthew Vogelsberg, Patrick Vogelsberg, Noah Busch, Isaac Busch and Jacob Lutjemeier; four nieces, Dannielle Heideman, Sara Kroeger, Ali Busch and Jessica Wilson; and many great-nephews and great-nieces. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
