John “Jack” H. Koehne, of Lincoln, NE, passed away on July 14, 2023 at Hanover Long Term Care in Hanover, KS. Family and friends were invited to honor the life of Jack at a rosary service beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 22, at St. Michael Catholic Church, 9101 S 78th St, Lincoln, NE. The funeral service followed at 10:00 a.m. The pallbearers were Tony Roby, Terry Gahagan, Terry Busing, Todd Sandmann, Nick Schaefer and Steve May. A private family burial will be held at a later date. Jack was born on October 19, 1953 in Peoria, IL, son of Richard “Boog” and Mary (Merna) Koehne. He attended St. Joseph's Catholic School. In 1971, he graduated from Pekin Community High School, Pekin, IL and worked for a family-owned grocery store at a young age. He had a brief stint as a car salesman and eventually worked selling Yellow Page ads for 24 years. On May 24, 1980, Jack married Wendy S. Goodrich in Pekin, IL. He was known for being quick-witted and often used a person's name in a song. He enjoyed all sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas City Chiefs, and Fighting Illini. He also enjoyed playing fantasy football and volunteered with St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Charities. Jack could recite the entire Woodstock album word for word and his love of music was second to the love of his family. Survivors include his wife, Wendy; daughters, Melissa (Todd) Sandmann, Beattie, KS, Marla Koehne, Raleigh, NC, and Amy (Nick) Schaefer, Bremen, KS; grandchildren, Olivia, Harper and Hayes Sandmann, and Perri, Palmer and Ford Schaefer; siblings, Richard "Dick" (Margaret) Koehne, Bern, KS; Dan (Nancy) Koehne, Kansas City, KS; David (Yvonne) Koehne, Pekin, IL; Mary Ann (Terry) Gahagan, Davenport, IA; and Julie (Rick) Davenport, Ft. Collins, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Bob Koehne. Donations be made to a memorial fund that will be designated at a later date.
