John Alfred Pishny, Sr.

John Alfred Pishny, Sr., 87, of Fairbury, NE, passed away September 11, 2023, at the Heritage Care Center in Fairbury.

A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 18, 2023, in Faith Hall at the United Presbyterian Church in Blue Rapids, KS. The visitation was one hour prior to the funeral service.  Pastor Shannon Borgman officiated.

Burial was in the Czech-Moravian Cemetery, South of Blue Rapids.

Alfred was born on June 2, 1936, near Blue Rapids to John and Mary (Luznicky) Pishny.

Alfred worked for the State of Kansas doing road and bridge work near Abilene.  There he met Emma Lou Tyrell.  They were married on August 25, 1957, in Abilene.  Not long after, they moved south of Blue Rapids where Alfred began farming.  In 1984, they moved to Blue Rapids.

He served as an Elder at the United Presbyterian Church from 1974-1976 and again from 2009-2010.  Alfred was also a member of the school board when Blue Rapids and Waterville combined and built Valley Heights High School and was a member of Rotary.

After farming, Alfred worked a short time at Landoll Corporation before going to work at Titan Trailer.  He would also fill in and help his friend, Jerry Pope at Pope’s Trash Service.   

He enjoyed playing dominoes with friends, watching sports on TV, including the Kansas City Royals and Kansas State University.  Alfred always loved a good meal.

On January 22, 2015, his wife preceded him in death.  In 2017, he moved to Fairbury, NE, to be closer to his son, John A. Pishny, Jr., and his wife Kristyn.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Margie Linthicum.

Survivors include his son, John (Kristyn) A. Pishny, Jr., Fairbury; granddaughter, Emily (Miguel) Garcia, Arlington, NE; and great grandson, Oliver Amado Garcia.

A memorial fund has been established to Cottonwood Hospice in Beatrice, NE.  Contributions may be sent in the care of Kinsley Mortuary.
