A funeral service was at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 27 at St. John's Catholic Church. A private family burial was at Prospect Hill Cemetery near Blue Rapids. Following the burial a meal was provided for family and friends to remember Joseph at the Blue Rapids Community Center. Joseph was born January 3, 2007 in Fairbury, NE to Michael and Holly (Goeckel) Brungardt. He enjoyed doing what most 14-year-old boys do, playing video games, building things with his Legos, and doing puzzles with the family. He would even race with his mother, Holly, to see who could finish puzzles faster. Joseph also loved music, he played piano since he was little, and found a passion for the sousaphone when he joined the school band. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially exploring the pastures on the family farm, and could even be found playing music for the animals from time to time. Joseph had a great enthusiasm for history, especially that of the military and WWII. He spent much of his spare time reading books and learning new information about the subject, with tanks being his most favorite topic of all. Joseph was excited to talk with his two brothers-in-law, who are in the army, about all aspects of their jobs and hearing stories about their experiences. Most importantly, Joseph had a great love for his family, and made everyone laugh with his quick wit and contagious smile. He loved picking on his sisters whenever he found the perfect moment. His favorite snack of Oreos with Strawberry milk would often make everyone around laugh and cringe. He was great at telling stories about his day and his new interest in chess club while enjoying family dinners together. He leaves behind his mother and father, Holly and Michael Brungardt, Blue Rapids; siblings, Elizabeth Grate (Laurence), Heather Mitchell (Joshua), William Moore, Sophie Brungardt, Emma Brungardt and Anna Brungardt; nieces, Olivia and Claire; nephews, Will, Laurence Jr, Timothy and Johnathon. Also surviving are his grandparents Catherine and Timothy Gastmann, Jerry Goeckel, Frances and Arthur Davenport, and Melvin Brungardt. A memorial fund is established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of the Hanover Mortuary.
