Joyce Gudenkauf, 78, of Junction City, KS formerly of Vliets, KS, died August 28, 2021 at Brookdale Senior Living in Junction City. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 3 at the United Methodist Church in Frankfort. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral. Pastor Jim Akins will officiate. Janet Plegge will play the organ. Pallbearers are Kim Gudenkauf, Bob Gudenkauf, Mitch Gudenkauf, Austin Gudenkauf, Alan Leis and Kaleb Leis. Honorary pallbearers are Audrie Gudenkauf and Abby Gudenkauf. Burial will be in the Centralia City Cemetery. She was born to August and Helen (Matson) Barnes on June 8, 1943, in Axtell, KS. In 1960, she graduated from Vermillion High School. Joyce was united in marriage to Kale Gudenkauf on July 28, 1962 and to this union were born four children, Richard, Rick, Scott and Becky. Joyce worked at various jobs, ASCS office in Seneca, Vliets Post Office as postmaster, Nan’s Cook N’ Nook, Frankfort school cafeteria, Nutrition Center in Frankfort and was the contracting officer at the Upper Black Vermillion Watershed Office in Centralia, retiring after twenty-two years. Joyce was a member of the Harmony Guild and the United Methodist Church in Frankfort. Family was her number one priority. She enjoyed making birthday cakes, crocheting and sewing. She was a fantastic cook and had a unique sense of humor that kept everyone on their toes. After a decline in health, Joyce spent the last four years at Brookdale Assisted Living in Junction City. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Kale; son, Richard; and sister, Joan Skillett. Survivors include children, Rick (Brenda) Gudenkauf, Paola, Scott (Carissa) Gudenkauf, Tampa, FL, Becky (Jarrod) Leis, Junction City; and six grandchildren, Audrie Gudenkauf, Mitch Gudenkauf, Austin Gudenkauf, Abby Gudenkauf, Alan Leis and Kaleb Leis.
