Karol Janine “Jean” Bauer, 84, Marysville, died October 17, 2020 at Cambridge Place in Marysville. Visitation was from noon until 9 p.m., Tuesday, October 20, at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. A rosary service was held at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 21 at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial followed at 10 a.m. Father Quentin Schmitz officiated. The musicians were Rosemary Forst and Fran and Ron Grauer. Music included “Here I Am Lord”, “Amazing Grace”, “Bread, Blessed and Broken”, “You Are Mine” and “How Great Thou Art”. The pallbearers were Tom Sandmann, Dan Sandmann, Andy Sandmann, Clint Sandmann, Alex Sandmann and Grant Sandmann. Burial was in St. Gregory’s Catholic Cemetery. Jean was born to Floyd and Jessie (Kinsey) Bortis on January 15, 1936 at Hastings, NE. She attended Marysville High School. Jean worked as a receptionist for Dr. Smalley Optometrist and Dr. Stanley Nelson Optometrist, retiring in 2009 after working 43 years. She enjoyed her work. She was a member of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church and was highly active in the church and belonged to the Altar Society. Jean also enjoyed gardening and woodworking. On December 27, 1958 she married Fredrich Bauer in Marysville. He preceded her in death on March 29, 1987. Also preceding her in death were her parents; and sister, Helen Price. Survivors include her special friend and caregiver, Leo Sandmann; and many nieces and great nieces and nephews. A memorial fund is established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary, Marysville.
