The funeral service in Kansas will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 23, at Padden Funeral Chapel in Frankfort.

Kyle was born in Arvada, CO, on March 27, 1989, to proud parents Michael and Lisa Humbert. His brother Christian and sister McKenna were just as doting as his parents, and they adored their new little brother. Kyle's birth made the family unit complete.

When Kyle was a year old, the family moved to a small farm acreage in Brighton, CO, where he spent his childhood years. He spent his days playing with the numerous animals his mother had accumulated, which included a large Nubian dairy goat herd, horses, chickens, turkeys, ducks, rabbits, and many dogs and cats.

Kyle especially liked helping with the goats, bottle-feeding babies, and filling water troughs. His chores also included the gathering of chicken eggs, which was NOT his favorite after being pecked several times by a couple of the broody hens. He was never a complainer though and diligently took care of his 5-year-old responsibilities. Kyle loved animals and was always kind and gentle. Kyle attended Northeast Elementary, Overland Trail Middle, and Brighton High School, graduating in 2007. During these years he made the friendships that would last throughout his life. Kyle enrolled as a history major at the University of Northern Colorado in 2009. While there and working part-time at PetSmart, he had an accident that changed his life. His leg was crushed when a forklift backed up and pinned his leg to the wall. His injury required many surgeries and was a source of constant pain and limitations during the remainder of his short life. Kyle would always joke that he could tell his grandkids great stories of how he got his scars in sword fights!

Because of the surgeries and medications, he had to put his college education on hold. However, he continued studying history on his own and he and his grandmother would spend hours discussing historical events and life in general. They had a tight bond of unconditional love. Kyle's jobs took him from Colorado to North Dakota, back to Colorado, on to Kansas and back to Colorado for the last time. Kyle loved his home state, the change of seasons, and especially the beautiful Rocky Mountains. Kyle's childhood friends were his "brothers", and although eventually spread across many states, they were in constant contact with each other. Along with fantasy football leagues and online chat rooms, they got together as often as possible, going on weekend trips and vacations. They had each other's backs and supported each other through the good times and not-so-good times of life. They were online together just hours before his sudden death.

Kyle was an avid football fan and although he watched every game, and knew the players on every team, his loyalties were to the Miami Dolphins. He spent many years learning about the sport from his previous stepfather, Tom Kircher and much of his love for the sport came from him. He loved to travel and was planning his dream trip of going to Ireland. Kyle was a quiet, sensitive "old soul". He was respectful and considerate.

Kyle was a loyal friend, a great listener, and the best son imaginable! He will be missed beyond measure! Kyle is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Robert and Cathrine Humbert; and uncle, Mark Humbert.

Survivors include his maternal grandparents, Leona Nelson, and James Nelson (Louise); father, Mike Humbert (Les); mother, Lisa Rieg (Phil); brother, Christian Humbert (Sarah); sister, McKenna Ferguson (Brandon); aunt, Mary Prall (Bob); and cousins, nieces, and nephews.
