Dr. Larry C. Schroeder, a distinguished individual with a wealth of knowledge and a kind-hearted spirit, passed away on June 26, 2024, at his home in Topeka, KS. He was born on April 18, 1949, in Axtell, KS, to his loving parents Carl and Lillie (Lew) Schroeder.
Throughout his life, Larry embarked on an impressive career path that was fueled by his passion for education and engineering. After graduating from Centralia High School in 1966, he pursued his studies in Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering at Kansas State University and the University of Nebraska before delving into Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Arizona. His dedication to learning led him to earn multiple degrees, including a Master of Science degree and Doctorate.
Larry's professional journey was defined by his invaluable contributions to the field of railroads. As an expert witness in court proceedings, he provided key insights on topics such as the stress of metal rails following train accidents. His expertise was highly regarded, shaping critical decisions within the industry. Prior to his retirement, Larry also served diligently at the Kansas Department of Transportation.
While his accomplishments in the professional realm were admirable, Larry's true character shone through his humble demeanor and genuine treatment of others. He interacted with everyone with kindness and respect, regardless of their background or status.
Beyond his work, Larry found solace in various activities that brought him joy. He cherished spending weekends at his property near Frankfort engaging in hunting expeditions with close friends. Additionally, dining at the Blind Tiger in Topeka and frequenting the Pizza Parlor for gatherings with friends were among his favorite pastimes.
In addition to leaving behind a legacy of academic achievement and professional excellence, Larry is survived by his cousins who will forever cherish his memory.
