Lavonne I. Ungerer, 87, died Friday, November 19, 2021 at Cambridge Place in Marysville, KS. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 23, from noon to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 24 at the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Marysville. Burial will be in the Marysville City Cemetery. Lavonne was born in Marysville on August 11, 1934 to John and Rheva (McBride) McMahon. In 1952, she graduated from Marysville High School. On December 19, 1954, she was united in marriage to Bruce Ungerer at Memorial Presbyterian Church. They raised three children, a son and two daughters and a nephew. Lavonne was an active member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church, singing in the church choir and teaching Sunday school and vacation bible school, when her children were growing up. She worked as a clerk typist with the ASCS office, USDA and as a bookkeeper for Ungerer Hardware and the farm. She served with the Green Thumb for several years after Bruce died, and worked at the elementary school making copies and as an assistant to the third grade and kindergarten. Lavonne helped at the Pony Express Museum and Habitat Thriftshop. She was an assistant to Frances Richards at the Twin Valley Assisted Living apartments and worked for Showcase Flooring and parttime at Parry Plumbing. Lavonne was a past worthy matron of Hilda Chapter O.E.S., past regent, Arthur Barrett DAR Chapter and member of other community clubs. She served on the advisory board for the Marysville Assembly of Rainbow Girls and as Mother Advisor in 1960. Lavonne enjoyed her club activities, singing in choir, art, reading and visiting with friends. She liked spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lavonne was an epitome of unconditional love and her favorite advise was “Be kind to all people because all people are born kind.” Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Bruce; daughter, Julie Poley; sisters, Rheva Rothe, Mary Shumaker; and brother, John McMahon, Jr. Survivors include son, Douglas Ungerer, Marysville; daughter, Susan (Jamie) Leonard. Summerfield; nephew, Scott Rothe; sisters, Jean Olson, Cuyahoga Falls, OH, JoAnne Vincent, Wichita; brother, Larry McMahon, Midwest City, OK; and nine grandchildren and twenty-nine great grandchildren.
