Lloyd Shubkagel, 88, of Marysville, KS, died October 5, 2024, at Cambridge Place in Marysville.
Visitation was on Saturday, October 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary. A funeral service followed at 2 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary. Gary Phillips officiated. Rosemary Forst played the organ while Wayne Kruse sang "The Lord's Prayer" and "How Great Thou Art."
The pallbearers were Ed Morris, Jeff Altwegg, Mark Ward, Eric Shubkagel, Steve Shubkagel and Loren Wassenberg.
Burial took place in Riverside Cemetery at Waterville, KS.
Lloyd was born on May 21, 1936, to Edward and Leda (Bailey) Shubkagel at Frankfort, KS. He attended Brown Country School and graduated from Frankfort High School in 1954.
On July 1, 1959, Lloyd was united in marriage to Pearl Ann Larson at the Methodist Church in Marysville. They celebrated 65 years of marriage.
From 1961 to 1963, Lloyd served in the U.S. Army and the National Guard.
He worked at OK Tires for 40 years.
In his retirement years, he was active in the Marshall County Historical Society and served as President for 9 years. Lloyd restored headstones in the small cemeteries located throughout Marshall County and was a board member on Mt. Hope Cemetery. He also volunteered at RSVP of Northeast Kansas.
Hunting, bowling, bingo and playing cards were among the things Lloyd enjoyed doing. For many years, he also liked to attend Kansas State women’s basketball games and Frankfort High School football and basketball games. Lloyd and Pearl Ann enjoyed traveling the United States together.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Melvin, Marvin and Robert Shubkagel; sister, Ramona Shubkagel West; brother-in-law, Louis Wassenberg; sister-in-law, Betty Shubkagel; and nephew, Gregory Wassenberg.
Survivors included his wife, Pearl Ann; nieces and nephews, Brenda (Mike) Hinkle, Stillwell, KS, Linda (Ken) Rousselle, Loveland, CO, Steve (Mary) Shubkagel, Lincoln, NE, Rod (Virginia) Tolle, Trimble, MO, Loren (Rhonda) Wassenberg, Blue Rapids, KS, Leann (Jeff) Altwegg, Riley, KS and LuAnn (Mark) Ward, Wamego, KS; and sister-in-law, Lorraine Wassenberg, Marysville, KS.
A memorial fund has been established to the Marshall County Historical Society or American Legion SMNR Post 163 in Marysville. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
