Lois M. Novotny, 86, of Oketo, Kan., died May 10, 2019 at Cambridge Place in Marysville. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 16 at the Marysville United Methodist Church. Private family burial will be in the Oketo Cemetery. Lois was born to William and Hannah (Hoefling) Schroller on January 11, 1933, at rural Oketo, Kan. in 1950, she graduated from Barnston High School, Barnston, Neb. On May 24, 1952, she was united in marriage to Dale "Jake" Novotny at Manhattan, Kan. Six children were born to this union. Lois was a homemaker. She was a member of the Oketo United Methodist Church and was very involved with the United Methodist Women, giving special attention to the ladies devotions, taking care of communion and keeping track of the church supplies. Lois received her 50-year pin for U.M.W. Lois enjoyed special holiday and family events. She always made sure her buttermilk brownies were on the table. She loved to sew, visiting nursing homes, and especially spending time with her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed working and trading jigsaw puzzles. Lois loved life and always cared for others. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Jake in 1993; brother, Dale Schroller; brothers-in-law, Richard Haner, Delbert McCown; and sister-in-law, Joyce Schroller. Survivors include her children, Barbara (Allen) Kos, Marysville, Larry (Kathy) Novotny, Doug (Janell) Novotny, David Novotny, all of Oketo, Randy (Lori) Novotny, Wymore, Neb., and Rhonda Plegge and friend Bear, Marysville; sisters, Luann McCown, Lincoln, Neb., Darlene Haner, Shirley Kossow and Kay Butler, all of Marysville; brothers, Billy Schroller, Oketo, Gary Schroller, Randolph; and nine grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established to the Oketo United Methodist Church or Meadowlark Hospice. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
