Lonnie A. Shannon

Lonnie Allen Shannon, 82, Vermilion, died November 4, 2020 at Stormont Vail Hospital, Topeka. Visitation was held from 1 to 8 p.m., Friday, November 6 at Axtell-Landreth Funeral Home, Axtell. A funeral service was at 11 a.m., Saturday, November 6 at the funeral home. Janelle Knowles officiated. Music was “God Bless America,” “Amazing Grace” and “Grandpa, Tell Me About the Good Old Days.” Pallbearers were Doug Ford, Mike Uhl, Clay Owen, Joe Alvarado, Dylan Collette, Trevor Sutton, Willie Varnell and Larry Shannon. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery. Lonnie was born on August 1, 1938 to L.A. and Audria Shannon at Hugo, Oklahoma. He was a high school graduate and served in the U.S. Navy. After his discharge from the service, he was an over the road truck driver. He always said he had three million miles under his belt. He eventually moved to Vermillion, with his wife, Lana, and became a shop foreman for Koch Truck Line and spent his last days volunteering at the VA. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Lana; and brother, Edward Shannon. Survivors include his children, Larry Shannon, Wayne Shannon, both of Sayre, OK, Christabel Shannon, Arkansas, Audria Shannon, Vermillion, and Amanda Doran, Topeka; stepsons, Jack Boyle, Frankfort, Gary Boyle and Troy Boyle, both of Vermillion; siblings, Vernon Shannon, Bill Shannon, Tony Shannon, Audria Arnett and Ella Mae Shannon; grandchildren, Ashley Doran, Brody Doran, Rhonda Shannon, Willie Varnell, Jessie Owen, April Shannon and Elizabeth Sumpter; and several great and great-great grandchildren. A memorial fund is established. Contributions may be sent in care of Axtell-Landreth Funeral Home, Axtell, KS.
