Loren F. Wollenberg, 88, of Hanover, Kan., died December 3, 2018 at his home. Visitation was Thursday, December 6, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Hanover Mortuary. A rosary service was held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday at St. John’s Catholic Church. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 7 at St. John’s. Father Joseph Kieffer will officiate. The musicians will be Janet Fritschi and John Knabe. Music will include “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art”. The pallbearers will be Rick Samland, Lee Moser, Ronny Goeckel, Joe Thompson, Mike Thompson and John Diederich. The honorary pallbearers will be Tyler Fritz, Nick Bernasek, Taylor Reith, Sam Dierberger, Kendall Reith, Brianna Sarabia, Karissa Dierberger and Tiffany Bernasek. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Loren was born October 5, 1930 near Hollenberg, Kan., to Martin and Helen (Burger) Wollenberg. He attended country school and Hanover High School. On August 1, 1962, he married Julia A. Sandmann at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hanover. Loren was a farmer and stockman his entire life. He once operated a feed store at Linn, Kan. He enjoyed farming, livestock, Polka dancing, coffee and little dogs. He was a member of St. John’s, Knights of Columbus and Hanover American Legion. Loren was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, LaVonne Bernasek; brother, Orville Wollenberg; and sister, Rosie Thompson. Survivors include his wife, Julia; son, Doug Wollenberg, Hanover; two daughters, Sheila (Kevin) Fritz, Hutchinson, Kan., and Tina (Aaron) Reith, Lawrence, Kan.; two sisters, Maxine Claeys, Marysville, Kan., and Susie Miller, Colorado Springs, Colo.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established to St. John’s Catholic Church. Contributions may be sent in care of the Hanover Mortuary.
