Lorna E. Wienck, 88, of Hanover, KS, died June 14, 2022, at the Hanover Hospital. Visitation was Friday, June 17, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Hanover Mortuary. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 18, at Trinity Lutheran Church northeast of Hanover. Rev. Rodney Fritz officiated. Arlyce Klipp played the organ while the congregation sang “It is Well with My Soul”, “On Eagles Wings”, “Lord Take My Hand and Lead Me”, and “Precious Lord, Take My Hand”. The pallbearers were Scott Wieters, Jason Gormley, Chris Gormley, Mark Cross, Nate Johnson and Paul Brei. Burial was in the church cemetery. Lorna was born on January 25, 1934, in Hanover to Ernst and Bertha (Niemann) Meyer. Prior to marriage she assisted people by caring for their families and cleaning their houses. On April 18, 1954, she married Donald Wienck at Trinity Lutheran Church, near Hanover. To this union three children were born, Janet, Diane and Gary. They were blessed with 67 years of marriage. After marriage they farmed near Waterville. In 1956, they moved to Colorado where Don was enlisted in the U.S. Army. There, she worked in a daycare center in Colorado Springs until Janet was born. When Don was stationed in Germany, she came back to Kansas. After Don’s discharge, they moved to Marysville and then to Hanover. She then became a homemaker for her family. Always having a large, bountiful garden keeping her busy with canning so her basement could always be stocked. She was an excellent cook and baker, making sure nobody ever left her her house hungry. Lorna was always willing to help anyone out when needed. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting and quilting. Don and she enjoyed square dancing and their many trips to Branson, MO. Her family was her pride and joy and she loved all of their visits and calls. She had many friends who she kept in contact with over the years. Survivors include her children, Janet (Randy) Wieters, Emporia, KS, Diane (Bill) Lux, Beatrice, NE, and Gary (Beth) Wienck, Marysville; sister, Rosella (Clarence) Brei; brothers and sisters-in-laws, Shirley (Jerry) McLaughin, Ione Kauffeld, Ivan (Irene) Wienck and Frances Wienck; grandchildren, Scott Wieters, Kelly and Mark Cross, Jason and Melissa Gormley, Chris and Ashley Gormley, Jennie and Ric Mandigo, Nate and Amber Johnson; great grandchildren, Carlos, Cohen and Casen Cross, Tamryn, Olivia and Emerly Gormley, Owen and Maya Gormley, Lexus and Syrus Root, Cash and Mark Johnson, Seth Mandigo; and many nieces and nephews.
