Lucille Godfrey, 91, Marysville, Kan., died March 2, 2018 at Via Christi Villages, Manhattan. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 7 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.A funeral service will be 10 a.m., Thursday, March 8 at the United Methodist Church, Marysville. Rev. Dale Lewis will officiate. Music will include “How Great Thou Art” and “Hymn of Promise”.The pallbearers will be Jenny Long, Scott Healy, Jeff Healy, Grant Godfrey, Mark Healy and Dustin Hostetler.Burial will be in the Marysville City Cemetery.Lucille was born January 1, 1927 the daughter of Barton William and Anna Mariah (Heck) Wherritt in Johnson, Kansas. She attended school in Montezuma, Kansas. On August 15,1948 she married John William Godfrey Jr. who preceded her in death.Whoever met Lucille, described her as a lovely lady, sweet, and feisty. Although only a little over five feet tall, she was a bundle of enthusiasm for life and caring about others. Lucille deeply loved her family and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lucille worked at J.C. Penney’s in Marysville retiring as the store manager. One of her favorite hobbies was collecting dolls. In her retirement, she was a snowbird with her husband, spending their winters in Coolidge, Arizona where Lucille hiked, biked, and made life-long friends.Lucille is survived by her children: Rosalind and George Long of Westwood, Kansas; Mark and Terry Healy of Manhattan, Kansas; and John Godfrey of Topeka, Kansas; grandchildren: Jenny Long; Kristi and Dustin Hostetler, Scott Healy, Jeff Healy, Elizabeth Godfrey, and Grant Godfrey; and great grandchildren: Olivia and Hazel Hostetler.
