Marcella Loretta Rieth, 85, of Hanover, Kansas, passed away peacefully at the Hanover Hospital on December 20, 2024. She was born in rural Hanover on October 17, 1939, to Frank and Clara (Siebenhaar) Rieth. Marcella attended Bismark School, where she laid the foundation for a life marked by kindness and community spirit.
A dedicated member of St. John's Catholic Church, Marcella shared her gift of music with the congregation as a long-time member of the church choir. Her passion for polka music and her talent for playing the organ and accordion brought joy to many. Family and friends will always cherish the memories of her delightful pies, cinnamon rolls, and popcorn balls, which were often requested as gifts. An avid crocheter, Marcella lovingly crafted numerous handmade gifts that were treasured by her loved ones.
Marcella was a gentle soul, known for her warm smile and quiet demeanor, which left a lasting impression on those around her.
Visitation was held at 10 AM on Friday, December 27th, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hanover. A rosary service followed at 10:30 AM, leading into the funeral service, which began at 11:00 AM, officiated by Father David Metz. Music was provided by Janet Fritschi and Marcella’s dear friends from the St. John's choir.
Pallbearers at her service included Scott Parker, Mark Heier, Curtis Parker, Roger Heier, Lee Rieth, Travis Rieth, and Alan Rieth.
Marcella is preceded in death by her parents; her siblings Dwayne Rieth, Bernard Rieth, Rosella Heier, Kenneth Rieth, Arnold Rieth, Gary Rieth; sister-in-law Trudy Rieth; brothers-in-law Phil Heier and Bill Parker; niece Danielle Rieth; and great-nephew Tyler Rieth.
She is survived by her sister Virginia Parker of Linn, sisters-in-law Betty Rieth, Barbara Rieth, and Cheryl Rieth, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews who will continue to honor her memory.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. John’s Catholic Church or to the St. John’s Choir/The Angel Loft, and may be sent to Hanover Mortuary c/o Kinsley Mortuary, PO Box 147, Marysville, KS 66508.
