Marie "Mae" L. FitzGerald

November 21, 1921 — October 21, 2019

Marie L. “Mae” FitzGerald, 97, of Beattie, KS, died Monday, October 21, 2019 at the Frankfort Community Care Home. Visitation was Wednesday, October 23, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. A rosary service was held at 7 p.m., Wednesday at St. Malachy’s Catholic Church in Beattie. Mass of Christian Burial was at 10 a.m., Thursday, October 24, at St. Malachy’s Catholic Church.  Father Nathan Haverland officiated. The musicians were Laura O’Neil and Jody Ketter.  Music included “Amazing Grace”, “On Eagles Wings” and “In the Garden”. The pallbearers were Jay Schneider, Shawn O’Neil, Kevin O’Neil, Rodney Craig, Larry Roesch and Robert O’Neil. Burial was in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Beattie. Mae was born November 21, 1921 at Summerfield, KS, to Frank and Theresa (Stadtel) Schneider.  When Mae was eleven years old, her mother died, and the family moved from Summerfield to Beattie.  She attended Koch country school and graduated from Beattie High School in 1940.  She then worked for Pfister Meat Market. On November 21, 1946, she was united in marriage to Desmond FitzGerald.  They were blessed with four children, Mark, Ramona, John and Mary.  Mae was a homemaker, worked at the Sale Barn Café and was a volunteer at the Beattie Mission. Mae loved gardening, canning, cooking, sewing, fishing and rock hunting.  She loved her houseplants and raised and sold them.  She enjoyed reading and working crossword puzzles. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Desmond in 2002; daughter-in-law, Deanna FitzGerald; son-in-law, Joseph Gambone; and sister, Katherine Giles. Survivors include her children, Mark FitzGerald, Meridian, KS, Ramona Gambone, Topeka, John (Pam) FitzGerald, Beattie, and Mary (Jack) Ratliff, Beattie; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established to the Frankfort Community Care Home.  Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
