Mark "Wass" Wassenberg

Mark "Wass" Wassenberg, 58, of Marysville, KS, died February 27, 2020 near Marysville. Visitation will be Thursday, March 5 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. A rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Marysville. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 6 at St. Gregory's Catholic Church. Father Nathan Haverland will officiate. The musicians will be Paula Landoll-Smith and Cindy Voet. The pallbearers will be Dan Pacha, Steve Pacha, Jon Schell, Leon Wassenberg, Jim Wassenberg, Tony Lyhane, Todd Young and Ron Sparks. The honorary pallbearers will be Ken Manley, Tony Marquardt, Chuck Marquardt, Matt Wassenberg, Dan Parmentier, Mark Meier and Pat Smith. Burial will be in the Elm Creek Cemetery, south of Marysville. Mark was born August 8, 1961, at Marysville to Gerald C. and Dolores (Hollern) Wassenberg. He was the oldest of eight siblings. In 1979, he graduated from Marysville High School. On September 11, 1992, he married Michelle Lally at their home near Marysville. They later divorced. When he was younger, Mark worked at Skyline Truck Stop and later worked on a gang for the Union Pacific Railroad. He then worked for Leon’s Electric where he learned the electrical trade before going out on his own and starting Elm Creek Electric. Mark was very social and always available to help friends and customers any day of the week. He was always quick to volunteer with his God-given talents whenever needed at many events in the Marysville area. Mark had a way with kids and loved teasing them in a way that they enjoyed him. And he especially loved riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle with friends, when it ran. He was preceded in death by his father, and niece, Kianna McCloud. Survivors include his daughter, Melissa “Clyde” O’Donnell and husband, RJ; granddaughter, Ryanne O’Donnell; mother, Dolores Wassenberg, Marysville; seven siblings, DaNita Wassenberg, Rosebud, SD, Kent Wassenberg, Home, KS, Dixie (Steve) Lepper, McCook, NE, Kurt (Jerre') Wassenberg, Abilene, KS, DaVina Wassenberg, Omaha, NE, Myles (Melanie) Wassenberg, DeSoto, KS, and DeAnna (Tim) McCloud, Chapin, SC; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial fund has been established to the Marysville Car Show. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
