Marvin L. Tate, 75, of Axtell, KS, died December 13, 2024, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, KS.

Visitation was Thursday, December 19, from Noon to 5 p.m. at the Axtell-Landreth Funeral Home in Axtell followed by a rosary service at 7 p.m., at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Axtell. 

A funeral service was held at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 20, at St. Michael's Catholic Church.

The pallbearers were Harold Brown, Leo Wessel, Terry Broxterman, Rex Broxterman, Larry Collins, Luke Veltman and Randy Broxterman.

Burial was in St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery.

Marvin was born to Marvin Sr. and Orpha (Hidy) Tate on December 3, 1949, in Seneca, KS. He graduated from Seneca High School. After high school, Marvin served his country as an airman in the United States Air Force.

On June 26, 1971, Marvin was united in marriage to Diane Marie Broxterman at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. They were blessed with three children.

After their wedding Marvin and Diane moved to Overland Park for ten years, working as a forklift operator for a battery company. After moving to Axtell in 1983, he worked as a door maker at Industrial Millwork in Seneca and was a custodian for St. Michael’s Catholic School and Church.

Marvin enjoyed many things in life, such as cooking, yard work, caring for the church, working hard, and making sugar cookies. He especially cherished the time spent with his grandchildren, whom he always had ice cream in the freezer for.

He was a member of the Axtell Knights of Columbus and American Legion.

Preceding him in death are his parents; wife, Diane; sisters, Sandra Farley and Linda Wessel; and granddaughter, Sydney Diane Tate.

Survivors include his children, Dana (Brian) Adams, Topeka, KS, Jeffrey (Misty) Tate, Wichita, KS, and Cayla Tate, Marysville, KS; grandchildren, Isaac Loseman, Lincoln Tate, Abigail Tate, and Nikki Enos-Tate; and a great-granddaughter, Charlotte Godfrey. 

A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of the Axtell-Landreth Funeral Home, c/o Kinsley Mortuary, P.O. Box 147, Marysville, KS 66508.
