Mary Irene Joyce, 84, Marysville, died Sunday, October 7, 2018 at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville.Visitation was Thursday, October 11 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville.A rosary service was held at 7 p.m., Thursday, at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church in Marysville.Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 12 at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church.  Father Nathan Haverland officiated.  The musicians were Hannah Malotte and Wayne Kruse.  Music included “Be Not Afraid”, “Amazing Grace”, “On Eagles Wings”, “Irish Blessing”, “How Great Thou Art”, “Ava Maria” and “Our Father”.The pallbearers were Bud Thomas, Dustin Rhodes, Derek Rhodes, Brad Thodes, Derek Gustin, Tanner Gustin and Caleb Vogelsberg.Burial was in St. Gregory’s Catholic Cemetery.Irene was born August 30, 1934 at Winifred, Kan., to Richard and Nellie (Hidy) Fairchild.   As a teenager she helped raise several siblings and worked hard to support her family.  On February 11, 1953, she married James L. “Jim” Joyce at Hastings, Neb.  The moved to Marysville in 1973.Irene worked several jobs including Jayhawk Bowl, Mary Marshall Manor, Boogaarts and in the fabric department at Walmart.  She retired in 2010. She was a member of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church.Irene loved many things in life; someone described her like this, “Irene always had this smile like she was holding a little secret.”  Her secret wasn’t really a secret…she was in love!  She loved her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and her God.  She loved life and could talk to anyone, friend or stranger.She enjoyed quilting, sewing, reading and was a Hallmark movie enthusiast!  Irene enjoyed playing rummy with her family and then later with her friends at Cambridge.  She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She spent many hours baking and making outfits for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also made clothes for children in African orphanages.  Irene loved her trips to the casino, especially the ones with her daughter, Becky.She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim in 2013; parents; brothers, Larry, Oliver, Lyle, Wayne, Bill and Ronnie; and sisters, Helen, Mildred and Lois.Survivors include son, James “Tony” (Melody) Joyce, Marysville; daughters, Becky Joyce-Thomas, Kearney, NE, Sue (Chad) Rhodes and Lisa (Michael) Gustin, all of Marysville; brothers, Jimmy, Robert, Johnny and Kenneth Fairchild; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later.  Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
