Mary McAtee, 95, of Topeka, Kan., formerly of Marysville, Kan., died July 21, 2019 at Topeka. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 3 at the First Christian Church in Marysville. Burial will be in the Marysville City Cemetery. Mary was born August 9, 1923 at Beattie, Kan., to Henry James and Ida Elizabeth (Hostettler) Gullion. She attended Axtell High School. On July 24, 1940 she married Dorus Dean McAtee at Pawnee City, Neb. To this union were born five children. Mary worked as a clerk and secretary for Montgomery Wards, Safeway and Parry Plumbing. She was a member of the First Christian Church, where she served as a deaconess. Mary attended every Sunday until she couldn’t hear the sermon anymore and the pews were to hard for her to sit on. She loved helping with the annual Fall Festival Soup Supper and worked hard to make it a success. She belonged to the Women of the Moose and during that time served as Senior Regent three different times. Mary was crowned Kansas Moose Association Sweetheart in 1997 and 1998, the only woman in Marysville to receive this honor. Mary was a member of the Eagles Club in Marysville from the beginning up until it closed. The women of the Eagles worked hard and raised money for scholarships and other community projects. Reading, word puzzles, volunteer work and playing cards were some favorite pastimes. She enjoyed camping, dancing and spending holidays with her family. Mary was a very loving mother and grandmother. She will be missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 2005; sons, Ronald McAtee and Duane McAtee; and brothers, Lester Gullion and Calvin Gullion. Survivors include daughters, Connie Miller, Haughton, La., Roberta Davis and Patricia (Paul) Rothfelder, all of Topeka; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren. A memorial fund is established to the First Christian Church. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
