Mary J. Wiegers, 84, of Marysville, Kan., died September 6, 2019 at her home. Visitation was Tuesday, September 10 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. The rosary service was held at 7 p.m., Tuesday at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Marysville. The funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 11 at St. Gregory's Catholic Church. Father Nathan Haverland officiated. The musicians were Cindy Voet and Wayne Kruse. Music included “Be Not Afraid”, “Prayer of St. Francis”, “On Eagles Wings”, “You Are Mine” and “Amazing Grace”. The pallbearers were Mike Wiegers, Bob Wiegers, Wiley Kannarr, Keith Holle, Brandon Holle and Don Landoll. The honorary pallbearers were May Ann Gabel and Sharon Chaulk. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mary was born June 10, 1935 at Topeka, Kan., to Sebastian P. and Rose (Rohr) Gabel. She grew up in Topeka and graduated from Hayden High School in 1952. Mary then attended and graduated from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in 1956. While working as a nurse in Topeka she met Edward Wiegers. On December 27, 1958, they were married at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Topeka. The couple made Marysville their home. Mary was a Registered Nurse and worked as a surgical nurse at the Marysville Hospital, was Director of Nursing at Mary Marshall Manor and was a long-time nurse at the Marshall County Health Department. During high school she played on the baseball team and throughout her life she enjoyed watching sporting events including the Kansas Jayhawks, Kansas City Chiefs and Green Bay Packers. She also enjoyed traveling. Mary was a member of St. Gregory’s Church and Altar Society. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward on June 28, 2013; brothers, Wilfred, Robert and Edwin; and a great-granddaughter. Survivors include two daughters, Patty (Keith) Holle, Marysville, and Susan (Wiley) Kannarr, Topeka; two sons, Michael (Lynn) Wiegers, Baldwin City, Kan., and Robert (Lisa) Wiegers, Bartow, Fla.; brother, Lawrence Gabel, Dallas, Tex.; sister, Esther Moulder, Reed Springs, Mos.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
