Michael "Doc" Lyhane, 65, Marysville, died Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville. Visitation is Tuesday, September 21 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. Vigil service is 7 p.m., Tuesday at St Gregory's Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m., Wednesday, September 22 at St. Gregory's Catholic Church. The service will be live streamed on the Kinsley Mortuary Facebook page. Burial is in the church cemetery. Doc was born August 25, 1956, to William and Juanita (Bieker) Lyhane. He graduated from Marysville High School in 1974. On September 2, 1978, he was married to Janice Petty at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church. They were engaged 31 days after their first date. To this union, Michael and Tyler where born. Doc was a devout Catholic who loved his faith and could be counted on to share his time and talent. He had a giving spirit and enjoyed helping wherever needed. Doc retired from the Kansas Department of Transportation after 41 years of employment and was the Highway Maintenance Supervisor for fourteen years. He enjoyed smoking food and visiting with customers at Bite Me BBQ. He and his wife, Janice, managed VFW Club 36 where thousands of children first learned to roller skate. Doc was a Boy Scout Troop 180 scoutmaster, Eagle Board of Review Coordinator, St. Gregory's Catholic Church parish council member, Sons of American Legion member, Knights of Columbus member, on the Memorial Day decoration committee, a Kansas Hunting Education coordinator and recently received the Kansas Hunter Education Region II Instructor the the Year award. He volunteered many places including the Marysville Public Library, St. Gregory’s and RSVP. Cooking for family and friends and sharing laughs was one of his greatest joys. He was well known for bringing holiday cheer to young and old by being one of Santa’s "helpers". Music played a large part of his life including playing the guitar and singing in church. He was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law, Gary (Charlotte) Petty and mother-in-law, Carole (John) Cunningham. Doc is survived by his wife, Janice; children, Michael (Ashley) Lyhane, Tyler Lyhane and Kelsey Donohue; siblings, David (Mary) Lyhane, Anthony “Tony” Lyhane, and sister-in-law Sheryl (Steve) Jones; grandchildren, Brendan, Kayla, Barrett, and Baby Bean. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary, Marysville.
