Murlynn "Mert" Dean Ott, 94, of Marysville, KS, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2025, at Good Shepherd Hospice Facility in Manhattan, KS.
A visitation was held on Friday, January 31, from 4-8 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville, where the family warmly welcomed friends from 5-7 p.m.
Private burial was held in the Marysville City Cemetery.
He was born February 22, 1930, the son of Fred and Effie (Gipson) Ott. In 1948, he graduated from Marysville High School. Shortly after, he purchased Ott Electric from his parents and ran it until he sold it to his daughter.
Mert loved public service. He served in the National Guard from 1948-1951, was a member of the city council, and eventually became the mayor of Marysville.
On November 26, 1951, he was united in marriage to Janis Marie Adams and was blessed with a daughter, Sheree. Janis preceded him in death in 1957. Mert was also preceded by his parents; and an infant brother.
Survivors include daughter, Sheree (Alan) Feldhausen, Marysville; brother, Fred Ott Jr., Coarsegold, CA; grandchildren, Adam (Carly) Feldhausen, Topeka, Taryn (Douglas) Wright, Gardner; and four great-grandsons, Jackson and Kellen Feldhausen and Oscar and Kenton Wright; and son, Roger Ott.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Mert’s name to benefit S.C.A.R.S. Dog Shelter in Auburn, KS. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary, PO Box 147, Marysville, KS 66508.
