Nancy was born on October 6, 1946, to William Francis (WF) Kennedy and Opal (Allen) Kennedy in Frankfort, KS. She attended Annunciation Catholic School, Frankfort High School and St. Mary College in Leavenworth. On November 24, 1966 she married Jon Padden at Annunciation Catholic Church in Frankfort. The second youngest of 12 (Anne, Patricia, Jean, Janet, Susanna, Sara, Bill, Martha, Judy, Joe, and Baby Jane) she grew up in Frankfort, blocks away from her future husband, Jon. She was a tomboy and would have loved to participate in organized sports if the opportunity were there.
Nancy and Jon married in 1966 and began their family with the arrival of Angela Kay (1967), soon followed by Jay Paul (1968). After much planning and careful consideration, they welcomed Carrie Elizabeth (1977). Nancy was the daughter of a banker and worked as a bank teller in Frankfort and Manhattan while Jon finished college at Kansas State University and Mortuary Science School in San Francisco. She and Jon moved to Marysville and she continued her work at First National Bank in Frankfort through the late 1980s. She also worked alongside her husband at Kinsley Mortuary answering phones and helping to make funeral arrangements, as necessary.
Her back deck was the place to be, a haven of shade trees and flowers, birds and black squirrels. She enjoyed gardening and was the best salsa maker around. Nancy loved to read, golf, make baby blankets for loved ones and play cards. In fact, she often stayed up too late with her friends in bridge club, coming home with pockets full of quarters. She was a sports fan who greatly enjoyed her children and grandchildren supporting them in all of their activities. She enjoyed traveling, particularly beach trips with family, and girls’ trips with her friends. Her world revolved around her family. She was cherished by seven grandchildren and she often said that she "was made to be a Grandma."
Nancy was a member of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church and served on the Community Memorial Hospital Foundation Board, Marysville Country Club Board and served on the Board of Directors at First National Bank. She was a 30-year member of Chapter BB, PEO where she served as liaison to the Stockard charitable organization for the chapter for 20 years.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Jon, and three children, daughter Angie Khoury of Lenexa, son, Jay Padden (Dusti) of Shawnee, and daughter Carrie Gibson (Jeff) of Kansas City, MO; and seven grandchildren, Elena and Nicholas Khoury, Riley and Jon Patrick (Jack) Padden, and Theo, Max and Liza Gibson; and siblings Jean Gose of Prairie Village, Sister Janet Kennedy of South Bend, IN, Sara Mullen of Mission, Bill Kennedy (Sandy) of Sun City West, AZ, Martha Miller (Roy) and Joseph Kennedy (MaryBeth) of Frankfort and Jane Adams (Russell) of Santa Monica, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, WF and Opal Kennedy, her sisters, Patricia Kennedy, Judy Kennedy, Sister Susanna Kennedy, Anne Thoma, brothers-in-law LJ (Bud) Thoma, Gilbert (Gib) Gose, and Loren Mullen and sister-in-law, Clarita (Tom) Kennedy.
Nancy was a strong believer in the value of a Catholic education and the family asks that all contributions be made to St. Gregory's Catholic Church School Endowment. Funeral for Nancy Padden Rosary service for Nancy Padden
