Neil C. Petersen, 84, of Beatrice, Neb., and longtime resident of Marysville, Kan., died May 14, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Society in Beatrice. Visitation is Thursday, May 16, from 1 to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 17 at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church in Marysville. Father Nathan Haverland and Father Robert Barnhill will officiate. The musicians will be Rosemary Forst and Paula Landoll-Smith. Music will include “Be Not Afraid”, “The Lord is Kind and Merciful”, “O Lord, I Am Not Worthy”, “Behold the Lamb”, “Song of Farewell” and “Praise the Lord Ye Heavens”. The pallbearers will be Nick Covey, Trevor Chadwick, Rich Landoll, Don Landoll, Dennis Morgan and Jason Brinegar. The honorary pallbearers will be Maureen Nelson and Howard Henderson. Burial was in Ridge Cemetery at Fremont, Neb. Neil was born April 24, 1935 at McCook, Neb., to Norman L. and Nell (Hilliker) Petersen. In 1955, he graduated from Marysville High School. Neil attended Southeast Nebraska, Nebraska Wesleyan, Benedictine and Missouri Western State University. He received an associate degree in General Studies and minored in Theatre. Neil was active and involved in assisting in his father's business Petersen Construction. Neil was a lifelong Nebraska Cornhusker and Kansas State Wildcat fan. He also enjoyed reading about news, local events, and traveling to many sporting events in Nebraska and Kansas. He enjoyed bowling and competed in the Kansas Sunflower Games, Cornhusker Games, Show Me State League and the National Bowling Championship tryouts. Neil was in the bowling league at Marysville for many years bowling with the Grosshan & Petersen and Jayhawk Bowl teams. He once bowled a 245! He was a member of the Catholic Church and was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and Kiwanis member. Neil is survived by two stepbrothers, Fred Aaron and Richard Aaron. He was preceded in death by his parents; and stepmother, Helen (Smith) Petersen. A memorial fund has been established.
