Patricia "Pat" L. DeMelo

Patricia "Pat" L. DeMelo, 63, of Blue Rapids, Kan., died April 13, 2018 at her home.Visitation will be Tuesday, April 17, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville.  The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 18, at the United Presbyterian Church in Blue Rapids.  Gary Phillips will officiate.The pallbearers will be Norbert DeMelo, Jordan DeMelo, Benjamin Deavours, Will Ralph, Hank Zabokrtsky and Zach Stade.Burial will be in the Prospect Hill Cemetery north of Blue Rapids.Pat was born October 19, 1954 at Marysville, Kan., daughter of Arthur Eugene "Gene" and D. Jeannette (Jenkins) Fincham. She grew up in Blue Rapids and graduated from Valley Heights High School.In 2009, she married longtime partner, Norbert DeMelo.After high school she moved to Wichita, Kan., where she worked as a florist. She later returned to Blue Rapids and began working for the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department as a clerk and dispatcher. Pat also served as the Blue Rapids City Clerk. In November 2017, she retired for the sheriff department.Pat enjoyed reading, gardening, flowers, painting and shopping.She was preceded in death by her mother, Jeannette; and sister, Pamela Fincham.Survivors include her father, Gene; husband, Norbert; sons, Jordan (Gabriella) DeMelo, Blue Rapids, and Benjamin (Aubrey) Deavours, Chapman, Kan.; sister, Penni (Richard) Meisel, South Padre Island, Tex.; brother, Jeb (Pam) Fincham, Winfield, Kan.; and four grandchildren.A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later.
